About our branch

The Coorparoo Branch is one of National Seniors' oldest branches - and very active socially. Our monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday each month (Feb-Nov) at the Coorparoo RSL Club with morning tea, guest speakers and activities. Arrival is at 10am for morning tea, with the guest speaker commencing at 10:30am followed by our general meeting finishing at approximately midday. The RSL is easily accessible by bus, but for those members wishing to drive there is an arrangement to park at the Coles Carpark across the road during meetings. We do however need to advise the parking company of car registration numbers so members are not booked unduly. Please advise our Vice-President, Pat Will (phone 3398 8726 or 0437 774 049), of your vehicle registration number 48 hours before the meeting so she can pass on the relevant details.

Members also catch up on the third Monday each month at Easts Leagues Club for morning tea and a chat. There is ample free parking on site, or a short walk from the busway. We also host bi-monthly day bus trips to areas throughout south-east Queensland. These are great informal ways to get to know fellow members outside the confines of a branch meeting.

Our branch members are very passionate about giving back to our local community, where we support the not-for-profit charity Care Kits For Kids through donations of items each month, as well as knitting beanies and scarves throughout the colder months which are donated to the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane. We also support other deserving charities with cash donations throughout the year.

We are a small, friendly group and welcome new members and guests to any of our activities.

Branch Digital Mentor

Be Connected is an Australian Government initiative empowering all Australians to thrive in a digital world. There are online learning resources as well as a network of community partners who offer support to help develop your digital skills and confidence.

If you are interested in increasing your confidence, skills and online safety using digital technology, or would like assistance and training on actually getting online, Freya Tienan has completed the National Seniors Digital Mentoring course and may be able to assist. Contact Freya on 07 3397 3304 or 0409 397 330 to see if she can help.

Supporting Mission to Seafarers Brisbane

Our members kindly knit beanies and scarves which are donated to the Mission to Seafarers in November each year. These items are given to any crew members visiting Brisbane who may need warm clothing when their ships are heading to colder climates.

Supporting the Coorparoo RSL Club

As the Coorparoo RSL supports our club through discounted meeting rates, we encourage our members to also join the Coorparoo RSL Club. Membership is only $2 per calendar year and scanning your membership card during each visit earns you points for later redemption on food and beverage purchases. You'll also receive food and beverage discounts, club vouchers, member only promotions and a birthday gift!

Please see the Club reception to renew or join for 2024.

Winter coat drive for the disadvantaged

Last year we collected over 200 items between May and July which were passed on to Jo Westh from 4 Voices Global. Our thanks to fellow NSA members of the Forest Lake Branch who also donated over 80 items to this organisation.

We would like to continue this activity in 2024 so if any members would like to donate a coat or jumper that you no longer wear please bring it along to our monthly meeting. All items should be in a good and clean condition.

Community Pantry Drive

We have started supporting a local community food pantry by supplying good quality non-perishable food items that can be passed on to help the needy and homeless in our area. Items such as biscuits, long-life milk, juice, canned tuna/vegetables/fruit etc. that can be easily opened and doesn't need heating.

If you would like to assist, please bring items along to our monthly meetings where we will collect and distribute them to a local organisation. Please ensure that all items are well within use by date.
