National Seniors Australia - South Australian Convention

Celebrate Experience, Celebrate Life!

Older Australians are celebrating life in Adelaide tomorrow at the National Seniors Australia (NSA) inaugural convention.

NSA chair Everald Compton will open the event highlighting the challenges of a growing, ageing population.

“We face some major issues that need careful and thoughtful planning if we are too ensure that our frail elderly Australians are given quality care and the respect that they deserve,” Mr Compton said.

“The new Federal Minister for Ageing, Mark Butler, will also be attending giving him an invaluable experience to hear firsthand the concerns of older Australians,” Mr Compton said.

NSA chief executive Michael O’Neill, who earlier this month addressed the National Press Gallery in Canberra on Ageing and an Ageing population, said older Australians were being encouraged to get out and get in to life to ensure a healthier and more satisfying life.

Inspirational speaker Derrick McManus, a former police officer who was shot 14 times with a high powered semi automatic weapon during a siege in 1994, will bring it home to the convention audience that “individuals can defy the odds; nothing is impossible.”

The convention starts at 8.15am Saturday October 9 and is being held at the Ridley Pavilion, Adelaide Events and exhibition centre, Goodwood Road, Wayville.

Speakers: NSA Chair Everald Compton; Minister for Ageing Mark Butler; Federal member for Hindmarsh, Steve Georganas; Paul Eliseo – personal trainer; Independent Senator, Nick Xenophon; Paralympic gold medalist, Liby Kosmala; Inspirational speaker, Ruth Mains; from Grand Pacific Tours, Derrick McManus; David Humble for Great Southern Rail; and Inspirational speaker Peter Salero.
