ACT budget neglects seniors
Media release
4 May 2010
The ACT government’s budget has neglected the capital’s seniors.
Commenting on the budget Fred Fawke, chair of National Seniors ACT Policy Group said:
“Older Canberrans welcome the expanded age care and rehabilitation programs, and the new Older Carers Respite Program but we are disappointed that little has been announced on key areas of concerns for seniors.
“The government has neglected the financial situation of seniors and done nothing on issues like social isolation and community safety. Even in the area of health, they have ignored public dentistry, which is an important area for older Canberrans.”
With around 280,000 members, National Seniors is Australia’s largest consumer organisation for the over-50s and fourth largest group of its kind in the world.
