Pensioners don't snap up Labor's latest dental promises

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally's promises about increased public dental care come after 16 years of NSW Government neglect, says National Seniors Australia.

Today Keneally announced a $12.5 million dental package which would provide 10,000 extra vouchers, worth an average of $400 each, for people eligible to receive free dental services along with other measures.

National Seniors NSW policy spokesperson Paul Versteege said the commitments can only be described as one-off and not good enough.

"What is so good about 10,000 dental service vouchers when hundreds of thousands are waiting?” Versteege said.

"What happens when the 5,000 free dentures have been distributed?

"Premier Keneally's promises about dental care demonstrate a profound ignorance of just how dire the situation is in regard to pensioners' dental health.

"National Seniors calls on the NSW Opposition and the NSW Greens to announce their costed plans to improve the public dental care system."
