NSW seniors optimistic Ageing Roundtable will promote positive ageing
The NSW Government’s moves to boost the community participation of seniors will help promote positive ageing, says the consumer lobby for older Australians. In a budget media release, NSW Minister for Ageing and Disability Services Andrew Constance said he “wants to increase the participation of seniors in the community and enhance their quality of life”.
Mr Constance said he would also host an Ageing Roundtable at Parliament House to kick off a six month project to develop a whole-of-government ageing strategy.
National Seniors Australia NSW Policy Advisory Group chair, Bernie Moloney, welcomed the plans.
“Seniors are optimistic that this Ageing Roundtable will provide for open debate on the opportunities and challenges presented by population ageing,” Mr Moloney said.
“Ultimately, we’d like to see a cross-portfolio approach to seniors issues that translates into practical initiatives for positive ageing,” he said.
